Wild Woodpecker Suet
1 1/2 lbs fresh ground suet
1/2 cup cracked corn
1 1/3 cup nut and berry seed
1/2 cup oatmeal
Melt suet in pan over low heat. Mix rest of ingredients together in large bowl. Allow the suet to cool slightly,
stir in dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly and pour into form or
pie pan quickly as the mixture will harden fast.
Helpful hints for making suet
Places to purchase suet are grocery stores and your local meat locker/market. Ask them to grind it for you. If you have your own grinder you can do it yourself but note this is somewhat messy. Grinding the suet is an important part of this recipe, so don’t skip it.
1 lb of suet equals 5 cups +/-
You can freeze any leftover. 1 lb seed equals 4 cups +/-
Your local farm store carries crack corn for chickens and is a better buy then corn they sell for wild birds.
